Viva is designed to be warm and conversational, not interrogation-style. It includes a calm briefing, optional practice round, and an opening warmup question. Nervousness is factored into assessment. The goal is a genuine conversation, not a high-stakes test.
Yes. Students can keep their submission open on the same screen during the conversation — the goal is to verify understanding of what they wrote, not test memory. Viva's questions probe genuine comprehension, so reading from the submission alone won't satisfy a follow-up.
Viva currently supports English and Korean, with Spanish coming soon. Conversation language is set per assignment. Students can converse in a different language than they submitted in — useful for bilingual schools.
We are FERPA compliant and take student data seriously. Voice recordings are processed in real-time and not stored permanently. Transcripts are stored encrypted and only accessible to the teacher and student. Schools can opt out of anonymized training data collection at any time.
Viva never replaces teacher judgment. Viva provides an understanding score and grade recommendation, but the teacher always makes the final grading decision. Think of Viva as giving you structured evidence to grade with more confidence — not an automated grade machine.
Viva works for any written assignment in any subject from Grade 6 through university. It's been tested across humanities, sciences, social studies, and language arts. The AI question generation adapts to the subject and grade level automatically.
Teachers pick from Short (5 min), Medium (10 min), Long (20 min), or a custom length up to 30 min. There's also an Adaptive option that lets Viva choose 5–10 min based on the submission. Long and Custom are best for thesis defenses, capstones, or graduate oral exams.
The Viva Card is a shareable PDF credential showing the student's verified understanding score, subject, and a one-sentence AI summary. It's student-facing and student-controlled — they decide whether to make it public or private. It's designed to be added to university applications or professional profiles.
