How to prepare for your interview and do well

The interview is about the work you just handed in. If you did that work, you are already prepared. The questions are about your own choices, not about the whole course.

• Reread your submission just before you start. That is the single most useful thing you can do.
• Be ready to say why. Why this method, why this source, why this conclusion. That is most of what gets asked.
• Use the practice run if there is one. It is not graded and it takes the edge off.
• Find a quiet spot with a decent microphone. Headphones help more than anything else.
• Use Chrome or Safari. A browser built into another app, such as Instagram or KakaoTalk, may not let Viva use your microphone. If the microphone check fails there, the page shows you how to open it in your browser.
• Speak normally. Thinking out loud, pausing and correcting yourself are all fine. That is what real understanding sounds like. If you stop in the middle of a sentence, Viva waits for you to go on.
• If you do not know something, say so and reason towards it. That scores better than a confident guess.
• Did not catch a question? Ask Viva to repeat it. That goes for the last question too: the interview does not end until you have answered it.
• Need a moment? Say "give me a second". Viva waits and asks nothing new; when you are ready it is still the same question. Asking what a word means, or to hear only part of a question again, works the same way and does not count against you. If Viva says it did not catch what you said, say it again: it asks rather than guess.
• Viva asks one short question at a time, and often says your last point back in a sentence first so you can hear that it understood you. If it got you wrong, just say so.
